New Raj Douth Review – September 2023

A return visit to this popular restaurant situated in Emerson Valley Milton Keynes, music and lighting makes for a pleasant atmosphere, plenty of space between tables.

Service was good offering Cobra and Kingfisher on draught. There was enough staff to offer a good service to the restaurant’s patronsPopadums average as were the pickles but no complaint, we were given a rather fiery onion salad which cleared my sinuses.

Starter, I had Prawn puree. It was not served in the usual way but had plenty of prawns with a rich sauce, top marks from me.

Mains, we had good portions, very tender lamb and rich sauces not too fiery but very tasty with the right amount of spice.

Rice and Breads, the rice was light and fluffy, the breads were very good and tasty.

We raised a glass to our friend Reg who passed 10 years ago and a sadly missed member of MK Curry Club. We love you Reg.

Doggy Bag

Positives
  • Nice lighting, music and atmosphere. Just over half full
  • Attentive staff and excellent service. Food came very promptly
  • The ‘challenge’ onion salad, with the pops was very hot
  • A regular type of menu. Clear to read, but very little indication of spice levels. Guess you can simply ask
  • Prawn puree, spicey and nice. Prawns by the side of the puree, some like this, others prefer inside the puree
  • Mixed kebab starter for two. Very good sharing choice. Tasty and not too hot
  • Bhindi lamb bhuna, very good. Not a hot dish but tasty
  • Lamb Korma, super flavour for the milder choice
  • Splendid Chicken Pathia
  • Lamb Methi Madras, maybe could have been more saucey, but very nice
  • All rices and veggie sides were very good
  • Excellent portion sizes
Negatives
  • Very average Pops
  • Lamb chops a bit salty, always a smaller choice of starter
  • Onion bhajee balls small, which made them a bit dry
  • Naans, a little too on the thick side
Common Curry

Average cost, good value
