Ganges Lounge
Ganges Lounge offers a highly positive dining experience with friendly, efficient staff and a recently refurbished, clean interior. Guests particularly noted the very generous portion sizes and good value for money, along with unique and crisp spicy poppadums. The reviewer highly recommends the restaurant and plans to return.
Ganges Lounge Review – September 2024
Some members started the evening at The Chequers pub, where there was a bit of a beer festival taking place.
We were greeted nicely and it turned out, as we went through our visit, that the staff were very friendly and efficient. The restaurant had recently been through a refurbishment (see gallery) so the decor and especially the carpet are in tip top condition.
While generally, all the food was good (see positive and negative comments below), the most notable observation was the very generous portion sizes. The spicy poppadums’ were different from most places, I personally preferred them, as they were nice and crisp, as so often, they can be a bit chewy elsewhere.
The food had no real issues and was definitely value for money. We would certainly recommend and return.

- Tawa Machli (fish), looks good, well cooked but not sure on flavour
- Non- vegetarian platter, for two, all very tasty
- Plates nice and warm ready for mains
- Large rice and mains dishes, doggy bag required
- Butter Lamb very tasty
- Lamb Methi, Madras strength, excellent
- Lamb Dhansak, Madras hot, very good
- Lamb Chilli Masala, not too hot, very good lamb (not too much ghee)
- Excellent and large Onion Bhajees. Other veggie sides of Saag Aloo, Keema Peas, Mushroom Bhaji all good
- All rice, including Special, Mushroom and Lemo all very good
- Naans’ not too thick, tasty
- King Prawn puree a bit bland
- Puree – too thick and heavy going
Pricy but still great value, large portions.
